Elk Rapids QB LaFontaine commits to Hillsdale

ELK RAPIDS — Early in the third game of the 2020 football season, Elk Rapids quarterback Gordie LaFontaine had his senior year come to an end as he dislocated a kneecap attempting a one-yard end zone plunge.
“The pain was bad. I didn’t know how bad at the time, but I had to watch the rest of the year from the sidelines. That was really hard,” said LaFontaine. Although his career in an Elk Rapids uniform ended early, LaFontaine will be continuing his football career playing at Hillsdale College after signing a letter of intent at the Elk Rapids Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
“I was looking at about four or five smaller schools, North Park University in Chicago and Ohio Northern were a couple. Hillsdale is a Division 2 school but that wasn’t the most important thing to me,” said LaFontaine, “I had been to three camps at Hillsdale the past few years. I met the coaches, and I also felt that it would be a good fit for me if I could go there. I thought it was a great school. They had a good football team. I thought if I had the opportunity to go there it would be really exciting.”
