Eagles rebuilding, but hope to ascend on the lanes

BELLAIRE — The boys bowling team that Bellaire is starting the season with is bound to look a lot different by the end, even if the 2021 season is a more abbreviated version.

The Eagles begin the year with a lot of youth and inexperience, but the expectation is they will be a tough squad to contend with by the time regionals roll around with the squad looking to ascend quickly.

“While it is definitely a rebuilding year, my hopes are that the boys have fun, first and foremost,” said Smith, who took over as head coach this season. “We may take some bumps this season, but I expect us to be competitive by the time Division 4 regionals come around.”

Smith, who owns Bellaire Lanes & Games, was a natural fit to take over for Al and Kathy Odom as the Eagles’ coach. Now he’s attempting to guide and develop this year’s squad while looking to bolster Bellaire’s bowling program in the long term.
