Barbara Ryan of Oliver Township gleefully welcomes back her four-legged companion, "Ralph," after the Great Pyrenees disappeared for 71 days and was found just outside Lake City. According to the family, Kalkaska County Animal Control Officer Chuck Hill deserves credit for the reunion, finding Ralph on the Missaukee County Humane Society's Facebook page.

KALKASKA – The new year is turning out a lot better already for Barbara Ryan of Oliver Township.

That’s because her 1-year-old Great Pyrenees, “Ralph,” is back home after an extended and rather unexpected time away.

According to Scott Matley, Ryan’s son, Ralph was missing for 71 days, only to be found three miles outside of Lake City. But, the family pet still might not have made it home if not for Kalkaska County Animal Control Officer Chuck Hill.

While he might not have physically found Ralph, Hill spotted a dog like the one Ryan had reported missing on the Missaukee County Humane Society’s Facebook page. He then called Matley, who was able to confirm that it was indeed Ralph.
