Representatives of the MSU ROTC Color Guard raise the American flag prior to last Friday’s inaugural Guardian Game on the new flagpole recently installed outside Kalkaska High School. The flagpole, made in Michigan and donated by the Michigan Heritage Foundation, is phase one in the development of Patriot Plaza at the Blazer Athletic Complex.

KALKASKA – After months of work and planning, organizers were able to celebrate the first phase in the creation of Patriot Plaza, an area to honor Kalkaska High School students who’ve served their country, during the inaugural “Armed Forces Appreciation Night” on Friday, Oct. 20.

The celebration started with the dedication of a new flagpole donated by the Michigan Heritage Foundation (MHF), as well as the honoring of area veterans, before the varsity football game between host Kalkaska and neighboring rival Grayling.

“The flagpole dedication completes Phase One of the Patriot Plaza,” said Jerry Cannon, a former U.S. Marine and local member of the MHF.
