Dawson helps runner, still earns medal

BEAL CITY — Bellaire’s Teegan Dawson was heading toward the chute at the Beal City Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when she spotted a Fowler laying on the ground and struggling to get up.

But before Dawson crossed the finish line, she stopped and helped the runner get up, then completed her race in a show of sportsmanship at the race.

“She was on the ground and she was trying to stand up and she couldn’t get up,” recalls Dawson. “I was going toward her and I just figured that if I had run the race that far and I was that close to the end I would want to just get up and finish, so I decided to help her out.”
