County official says ‘polls will be open,’ despite state push for absentee ballots

KALKASKA — Community events and festivals, including Kalkaska’s own National Trout Festival, have been canceled this year due to concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

But, voting at the polls in the upcoming primary and general elections this August and November won’t be among the casualties, according to one Kalkaska County official.

Deborah Hill, Kalkaska County Clerk, said her office, as well as various township clerks, have been inundated with calls from local residents who received applications for absentee ballots in the mail, wondering if voting in person this fall had been canceled because of the pandemic.
