Communities come together to fight COVID-19

REGION — As authorities shut down schools, businesses, and events, communities all over northern Michigan, including Antrim and Kalkaska counties, came together last week to help their family, friends, and neighbors in the fight against COVID-19.

Many members of the various communities were quick to offer their assistance as schools attempted to continue breakfast and lunch meal programs for students by offering to package bagged lunches, donate food items, and deliver meals to students. Most school districts arranged for meals to be made available via school buses that are continuing their normal routes, which kept school bus drivers working, while some made the bagged meals available for pick-up at the school.

Also ensured was that students' minds as well as their stomachs would continue to be filled. As superintendents and teachers grappled with the thought of no school for at least the next two to three weeks, some took the bull by the horns and sent ‘busy’ packets home with students on the last day of school.
