Changing hands: Sieting announces sale of local landmark bearing family name
KALKASKA – Kalkaska Village President Jeff Sieting and a local landmark that bears his family’s name, the Hotel Sieting, are about to part ways. That’s because Sieting said he recently sold the building to investors from southern Michigan.
Sieting bought the hotel, which was built in 1912 by a relative, John Sieting, for $40,000 in 2011. And, after “over 4,800 hours in labor and tens of thousands” of dollars, Sieting finally reopened the building to house his own business in the spring of 2016.
Prior to that, the structure had remained vacant since the mid-1980s, when it was last home to a bar and restaurant.
