Central Lake raises water rates

CENTRAL LAKE — Noting that the cost of using municipal water in the village has not changed since 2013 despite ever-increasing costs, the Central Lake Village Council opted to increase water rates during its monthly business meeting last week. 

"The rates need to be increased," said trustee Ralph Hines before making the motion to increase the rates by an average of $1.30 a month for residential users, which was supported by trustee Brian Patton, then unanimously approved.

The increased cost of equipment, such as pumps, needed for the village's water system made the hike necessary, Hines continued, adding that down the line rates would need to be increased dramatically to offset the cost of sewer improvements that the village may undertake.
