Central Lake-Ellsworth, Inland Lakes combine to tie state record for scoring
INDIAN RIVER — In a wild game that tied the state record for most combined points scored in an 8-player football game, Inland Lakes outlasted Central Lake-Ellsworth 86-66 on Saturday.
The 152 combined points matched the record set by Flint International Academy and Lawrence in 2017, with Flint International Academy’s 78-74 score setting the mark initially. The Bulldogs’ 657 yards of total offense also set a state record for an 8-player game.
Though both teams were able to put up big offensive numbers they did it in different ways. Inland Lakes had the majority of its total came on the ground, while Central Lake-Ellsworth’s offense was mostly through the air. The Trojans’ Braden Steenwyk threw for 512 yards and a state-record eight touchdowns, while also running for another score. Five of Steenwyk’s touchdowns went to Jamal Cebulski, who had six grabs for 237 yards. Kelan Pletcher led the Trojans with nine receptions for 120 yards and added two touchdowns. Drayton Evans caught six balls for 79 yards, Garrison Barrett had five catches for 72 yards and Owen Cary caught a 4-yard touchdown pass to help the cause.
