Central Lake to create point system for retail marijuana applicants
CENTRAL LAKE — Apparently concerned about a possible lawsuit threat from a large commercial marijuana retailer, the Central Lake Village Council opted to create an application system using points for potential marijuana retailers in the village after listening to the opinion of their legal counsel during its May business meeting.
Explaining that many municipalities in Michigan use a point system in approving marijuana retail applicants, Central Lake village attorney Bryan Graham suggested that the village amend its marijuana ordinance to include the process.
A large commercial marijuana retailer that already has retail outlets in Kalkaska and Traverse City, as well as four other municipalities in the state has attempted to apply for Central Lake's one retail marijuana permit, which has already been allotted to Central Lake marijuana entrepreneur Kelly Young, and has accused the village of favoritism and unfair actions.
