Brown is 2018-19 girls basketball player of the year

REGION — Kendall Brown finished last season on the bench.

It wasn’t her performance that kept her off the court for Elk Rapids at the end of her junior season, however, but an injury.

Brown got herself healed up and was back to 100 percent this season, and Elk Rapids reaped the benefits of having their star player return to the fold. The Elks won 17 games and finished second in the Lake Michigan Conference, then won a district championship for the first time in seven years with a third straight victory against Traverse City St. Francis — after having lost 23 consecutive games to the Gladiators coming into the year. Brown became the ninth Elk Rapids girls basketball player to reach 1,000 points when she joined that exclusive club later in the year.
