Blazers outlast Falcons in thrilling five-set match

KALKASKA — For more than two hours Kalkaska and Ogemaw Heights battled on the volleyball court on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

And when the dust settled the host Blazers were able to claim a 3-2 victory, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to win the thrilling match, 25-18, 19-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13.

Kalkaska started strong in the match in winning game one, but Ogemaw bounced back with a win in game two and then snuck past the Blazers in a back and forth third game. With their backs against the wall the Blazers responded with back to back wins in games four and five to pull out the match.

Jordyn Disbrow was tough at the net for the Blazers, recording 16 kills. Payton McKenzie added five kills and also had an ace serve down the line that clinched the victory in game four. Maddy Wilkinson chipped in with four kills. Kenzie Kniss and Lauren DeVol each were 100 percent on serving, with DeVol picking up 10 aces.
