Blazers look to carry over momentum from end of last year

KALKASKA — As its 11-10 record a season ago would indicate, it was an up and down season for Kalkaska’s girls basketball team.

In fact, during one stretch, the Blazers alternated wins and losses over eight games. But Kalkaska seemed to be coming together as the regular season winded down, winning four straight contests — including a 48-40 district semifinal win against Cheboygan — before falling to Kingsley in the district final. Kassi Burkam, in her second year as the varsity head coach, is looking to carry over that momentum into the new season.

“Definitely a lot more comfortable starting out,” said Burkam. “I told the girls we are starting off where we left off last year, which I’m happy about.”
