MANCELONA — Two years without a softball district title was two years too long for Kalkaska.

The Blazers returned to the top of the mountain on Saturday, defeating Roscommon 2-1 in a tight semifinal game, then cruised past Mancelona 17-2 in the championship game to win their first district since 2018.

After squeezing past Roscommon in the first game Kalkaska didn’t leave any doubt against the Ironmen, jumping out to a 9-0 lead after three innings and never getting threatened from there.

Jayce Mitchell had a big game for Kalkaska with three hits and five RBIs. Not to be outdone was Lauren Judd, who had three hits and four RBIs. Maddy Wilkinson collected two hits and Alli Devol had two RBIs to help the Kalkaska cause.

Mia Miller pitched both games for the Blazers and was dominant, She struck out nine in four innings. In the opening game she limited Roscommon to just four hits and fanned 16.
