Birgy re-elected to lead KPS board in split vote

KALKASKA – Rachael Birgy will continue her reign as president of the Kalkaska Public Schools Board of Education, but only after surviving a challenge from fellow board member John Rogers at the school board’s organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 18.

Birgy, who was previously selected as president with a unanimous vote, was again selected as the board’s top officer on a split, 4-2, vote at Monday night’s meeting, with herself and board members Mary Scobey, Regan Foerster and Dr. Richard Hodgman voting in her favor.

“I’m thankful to be with you guys in serving our district,” Birgy said. “I’m happy to be nominated (for president) again.”
