Bellaire Winter Farmers Market keeps growing in third year

BELLAIRE — Although farmers markets aren’t often associated with the winter season, especially here in northern Michigan, the Bellaire Winter Farmers Market challenges that.
The market is open every Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Farmers Market Fridays from mid fall to late spring with vendors in two downtown locations, Bee Well Mead & Cider and Terrain Restaurant. This year’s winter market will run until the summer market opens near the end of May.
Since the Bellaire Winter Farmers Market first opened only three years ago, its grown from around five vendors and one location to up to 25 different vendors and two locations each week as of this season, said Caitlin McSweeney-Steffes, the winter farmers market manager. The market consistently hosts the same six vendors every week, while the rest rotate in and out, sometimes pushing the market up to 20 or so different vendors depending on the week.
