Bellaire takes down Forest Area for first football win of the season

BELLAIRE — The best sight the Bellaire football team has seen all season was quarterback Drake Koepke taking a knee.

That signaled a victory for the Eagles — their first of the season — as Koepke essentially ran out the clock on the final few snaps of a 28-12 win over Forest Area on a Thursday night Homecoming game.

Bellaire (1-5) was mostly in control of the game after a fast start by the Warriors in the first quarter. Forest Area scored on its first play from scrimmage — a 51-yard run by quarterback Jake McGee — and added another score later in the first quarter on a 38-yard touchdown run by McGee to build a 12-0 lead. McGee finished with 193 yards rushing on 38 carries.

“After that the kids settled in and played pretty well for most of the rest of the game,” said Bellaire coach Tom Baeckeroot.
