Bellaire DDA "in good stead," chair says, despite loss of funding

BELLAIRE — The village of Bellaire's Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is "in good stead," chair Louise Wenzel said recently, despite the loss of the group's primary source of funding. 

Short's Brewing Company had been providing the funding, consisting of monthly contributions of $2,500 and annual contributions of the beer company's profits from its annual Bellaire anniversary party, for the past several years. Discussions about the cessation of the funding began in June, when Short's founder Joe Short, who is also a member of the DDA, indicated the company would need to reduce their monthly contributions in light of the company's modified budget analysis for this year.

It was agreed by the group at that time that the DDA needed to "step up" and find other alternative funding sources.
