Bellaire boys aim for magical season

It’s been exactly 20 years ago this season that the Bellaire High School varsity basketball team last played in the MHSAA State Finals in the Breslin Center in East Lansing Michigan.  This year’s team has aspirations to return to that venue for a shot at the state championship. The 2005 team lost in heartbreaking fashion to Detroit Rogers 71-68 in overtime, this year’s team could write a new chapter in Eagle boys basketball history.
Paul Koepke, the Eagles head boys’ varsity basketball coach and a disciple of Stan Sexton, who coached that 2005 team, has a great mixture of size, speed and experience that could make a long run. Last years team lost in the regional final to Glen Lake and all but one player, (Luca Menestrina), returns from last year’s 21-5 squad.
