Mancelona's fifth- and sixth-grade gym received an upgrade in time for the start of the 2019/2020 school year. Maintenance director Ed McCarty said the gym received new paint on all walls, ceiling joists, doors and frames, new LED lights, four new side backboards, a new wireless scoreboard and a new floor. Other portions of the building also received major improvements this past summer.

ANTRIM COUNTY – Students in Antrim County's four largest public school districts will meet new staff and see a variety of improvements on the first day of the 2019/2020 school year, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3.

BELLAIRE

"Besides myself, we are excited to have two new staff members joining us this year," said new Bellaire Superintendent Mark Brenton, who took over his new position in July following the retirement of longtime administrator Jim Emory.

"Liz Crouch is our new K-12 music teacher, taking the position long occupied by Tom Golden, and April Davidson is our new second grade teacher at John R. Rodgers Elementary School."

"Kristi Poel, who for many years was both elementary and middle school principal, will now be the elementary principal exclusively," noted Brenton.

"I will be serving as secondary principal for grades 6-12, as well as superintendent," he added.

A former resident of Novi, Brenton came to the district from Dearborn Heights School District No. 7, where he served as an elementary principal, taking the position originally occupied for several years by Emery.

CENTRAL LAKE

"Central Lake is excited to start the 2019/20 school year," said Central Lake Schools Superintendent Lenore Weaver. "We have a new part-time administrator, Monique Dean, who recently retired from the Pellston School District where she served as a teacher, a principal and as the superintendent.

“Mrs. Dean is excited to join the Central Lake School District as our new elementary principal, where she will work and enjoy time with students, staff and families."

Students and staff will also be working with new infrastructure this year.

"Central Lake is proud to announce the installation of brand new state-of-the-art technology infrastructure,” Weaver said, “with new fiber installed between the elementary and middle school/high school buildings, and new cable electronics/Wi-Fi in both buildings.

"The technology upgrade will support the use of four new Chrome carts, each one housing 30 individual laptop computers," she continued. "Two carts will be placed at the elementary and two will be added to the middle/high school for a total of four. We're looking forward to a great year."
