Area runners find success at Central Lake Invite

CENTRAL LAKE — It was a banner day for several area track performers at Monday’s Central Lake Invitational, including Mancelona’s Jayden Alfred on the boys side, and Forest Area’s McKenzie Szymchack and Emily Norkowski, Mancelona’s Alexis Newbould and Ellsworth’s Judy Veldboom on the girls side.

Alfred set the standard among the boys with first-place finishes in the 100 (12.04) and long jump (20-7), and a second-place finish in the high jump (5-10).

Szymchack, Norkowski, Newbould and Veldboom each came away with a first and a second on their ledger. Szymchack was first in the 100 (14.08) and second in the 200 (28.89), while Norkowski took first in the 300 hurdles (49.69) and was second in the 100 hurdles (17.99). Likewise, Newbould took first in the 1,600 (5:57.9) and was second in the 400 (1:07.83), and Veldboom was first in the 800 (2:41.1) and second in the 1,600 (6:09).
