Appointment leaves village council one member short

KALKASKA – The Kalkaska Village Council is making a rebound, of sorts.

After shrinking to just five active members following a pair of recent resignations, the council increased its membership back to six with the appointment of a new trustee – athough, a very familiar face – at its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 26.

Robert Larsen, a village resident for 40-plus years, was appointed Monday by a unanimous vote, 5-0, to fill the vacancy left by Kathleen Sanborn’s resignation from the council in mid-January.

Larsen, a retiree, has been an active member of the community, serving on the village’s Planning Commission, as well as holding leadership positions in local chapters of various service organizations and the St. Mary of the Woods Church. He also previously was a reserve officer with the Kalkaska Village Police Department.
