A flight demonstration by the U.S. Coast Guard was just one of the numerous planes and helicopters to participate in the 11th annual Kalkaska Fly-In & More on Saturday, June 24 at the Kalkaska Village Airport on Island Lake Road.

KALKASKA – It might not have been the best attended “Kalkaska Fly-In & More,” but the results have organizers excited about the rebirth and growth of the event held at the Kalkaska Village Airport on Saturday, June 24.

“There were just short of 30 planes this year,” said Cash Cook, director of the Kalkaska Downtown Development Authority. “We had 33 last year.

“But, the weather forecast was so odd for Saturday. We were supposed to have fog in the morning,” he added. “We think some people who were planning to be here stayed home.”

Despite the unusually cool weather, the fly-in seemed to be a popular destination Saturday. Cook said the Kiwanis Club of Kalkaska recorded banner sales at its annual blueberry pancake breakfast.

This year’s fly-in at the airport, located on Island Lake Road, also included a classic car and motorcycle show, as well as radio-controlled planes and jet demonstrations by the Kalkaska Area Model Plane Society (KAMPS).
