KALKASKA – Christmas is coming early to the Northland Plaza!

Festival of Trees, the annual KAIR fundraiser, will fill the entryway between Northland and the Hair Depot beginning Saturday, Nov. 10, and running through Sunday, Nov. 18.

The annual free event is open to the public and will be open every day from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The fundraiser will kick off on this Saturday with coffee and muffins provided by McDonald’s, and wrap up with a silent auction and raffle drawing on Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.

Thirty-six Christmas trees of various sizes will be featured for 2018. They are available either by raffle or silent auction, and each is decorated with a special theme. This year visitors will find a beach tree, an emoji tree, a gold tree, a sewing tree, an American Doll tree, and more.

However, this fundraiser extends beyond Christmas tree raffles; there are also sponsors and a luncheon. Organizers are hoping to raise more than last year’s tally, which totaled $41,000.

“The community, both individuals and businesses, are so supportive, it’s overwhelming,” said volunteer Janet Sieting. “They always have been. We have a really great start on sponsorships.”

Fellow volunteer and event chair Sandy Bodenbender agreed.

“The support for Festival of Trees remains strong, and that is appreciated,” said Bodenbender, who has been a part of the event for more than 10 years and chairman for the past four.

“We’re already thinking about next year,” she added.
