REGION — For Elk Rapids, a championship has been a long time coming.

Twenty-five years, to be exact, since the last district volleyball title the Elks won.

Forest Area, which captured its second straight Ski Valley Conference title this season, and Bellaire, which won a district for the third consecutive time, have made championships a more regular occurrence.

All three carried the torch for the area, winning the three titles that came back to Antrim and Kalkaska counties in a year when two of them — Bellaire and Elk Rapids — advanced all the way to the regional finals.

A third-team Class C all-state selection, Christian was one of the driving forces behind Elk Rapids’ successful season.
