Anna Mathews, who describes herself as the Antrim County Petoskey Stone Festival's "biggest fan," is shown with the new complete collection of Petoskey Stone Festival collectible buttons that were recently presented to her by festival organizers. Diagnosed with a large, potentially life-threatening brain tumor in March, Mathews is on the road to recovery at Munson Medical Care in Traverse City after a lengthy and complicated April 10 surgery. She is hoping to attend this year's festival on Saturday, May 27.

REGION – Anna Mathews, now a resident of Williamsburg, is the Antrim County Petoskey Stone Festival’s self-described “biggest fan.”

Always an avid collector of the ancient coral treasures and supporter of the area’s natural resources, Mathews attended the festival’s first Memorial Day weekend event in 2006 and hasn’t missed a single event ever since.

She loves looking at all of the ways the festival’s close to 40 rock and mineral vendors display and offer Petoskey Stones for sale; the festival’s annual hunt on the beach of Eastport’s Barnes Park, where the festival is held; and watching children as they attempt to catch one of the rare coaster brook trout stocked into the event’s free kid’s fish pond.
