TORCH LAKE — An eight-acre piece of property with 200 feet of prime Torch Lake frontage is being sold at auction by the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources.
TORCH RIVER — Reaction was mixed to news over the weekend of the Michigan DNR's pending purchase of a piece of Torch Lake property at the south end of the lake near the popular sand bar area that will be used to expand a very popular boat launch site.

ALDEN –A group of approximately 50 riparian property owners and local environmentalists heard a presentation last Thursday, Aug. 16 presented by the Torch Lake Coalition regarding the health status of the popular lake.
REGION – In 2014, property owners and visitors to Torch Lake began to notice that the sandy shoals of the lake were becoming covered with a fluffy, brownish substance. And the famous color of the lake, an intense turquoise blue, had more of a greenish tint, especially in shallower areas.
REGION – A continued heavy presence of law enforcement authorities on the well-known "sandbar" at the south end of Torch Lake near Torch River over the July 4 holiday has calmed wild and illegal behavior considerably, according to several authorities and residents following last week's revelries.
