Young and older enthusiasts enjoy visit from railroad group
KALKASKA – More than 30 railroad motorcars pulled into town on Saturday, flashing their lights and waving red safety flags as they stopped in front of Chalker Park. They were welcomed by a large crowd of locals lining the tracks, smiling and waiting expectantly.
This is the third year that the North American Railroad Operators Association (NARCOA) excursion has stopped in Kalkaska on its way from Cadillac to Petoskey.
“Most people are enthralled by trains and we have the tracks through town, so why don’t we embrace it?” stated Downtown Development Authority Director Cash Cook.
