Work still needed to complete $4-million water, sewer project
KALKASKA – Almost. That was the message of Scott Yost, Kalkaska village manager, when reporting to the Kalkaska Village Council at its regular meeting Monday, Dec. 11.
Yost said the more than $4-million project to update and upgrade the village’s water and sewer system that started this past spring was “essentially done.”
“We have some restoration and other work that will still need to be done in the spring,” Yost added. “But, they won’t be digging up anything – hopefully.”
Work on the project started in early April and has included upgrades to about 18,000 lineal feet of water mains – or more than three miles of pipe – and 5,800 feet of sewer force mains, as well as 2,000 feet of storm sewer lines and another 1,900 feet of gravity sewer lines.
Other improvements to the village’s sewer system include the rebuild of three system pump stations, force main replacement and improvements at the Clean Water Plant. Also, a storm water system will be added to the original IDC Industrial Park to eliminate flooding and inflow into the Village sanitary sewer system.
