At work on Serenity Tree Project

KALKASKA — Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition has been hard at work on the Serenity Tree Project.

The Serenity Tree, located just outside of the Rocking Horse Arena on Kalkaska’s KART Trail, is an evergreen tree donated by the Kalkaska Conservation District. On the first Monday in December their Kalkaska County Serenity Vigil is held and last December celebrated their sixth year.

The event is held to remember those in the community who have lost their lives due to substance use, those still struggling, and to celebrate those in recovery. On this night we join together in prayer and fellowship, offer an educational presentation, share personal stories, and provide refreshments and live music from a local musician. The night ends with a candlelight walk from Kalkaska Church of Christ to the Serenity Tree. There, everyone gathers and places ornaments on the tree to remember those they have lost and those still struggling.
