KALKASKA – There might not be a new sheriff in town, but a new undersheriff was recently appointed and will take over as the Kalkaska County Sheriff Department’s second-ranking officer.

Sheriff Patrick Whiteford announced that Sgt. David Wagner, who was recently in charge of operations at the Kalkaska County Central Dispatch, will succeed Harry Shipp, who recently resigned from the position after 25 years with the KCSD.

“Wagner’s background with corrections experience early in his career, road patrol, road patrol sergeant, the Emergency Response Team, Traverse Narcotics Team and, most recently, his oversight of Central Dispatch operations made him the right choice,” Whiteford said.

“Wagner’s multiple experiences will help him easily transition in the undersheriff position, where he will assist in the oversight of day-to-day operations of the sheriff’s office,” he added.

“Undersheriff Wagner and I will make a great team to lead the sheriff’s office into the future.”

Wagner’s appointment to the new post was effective Monday, May 21.
