ELK RAPIDS — The COVID-19 virus brought a sudden end to the Ferris University basketball season in March of 2020, cancelling the postseason as the 27-6 Bulldogs were headed for Indianapolis to play the NCAA Division II tournament regional opener.

Former Elk Rapids star center Cole Walker was on senior on that bus, the disappointment of having his final season at Ferris cut short combined with a feeling of “basketball burnout” led Walker to decide that his basketball career was over. “While at Ferris I for sure thought a lot about playing overseas once I was done,” Walker said, “I had a few agents message me about getting something started for me, but at the time I thought it was a good time to hang up the shoes. I felt burned out. Five years of basketball as a student athlete and I’d been playing the game since the fifth grade. The disappointment of how my senior season ended was hard to take. It just seemed like it was a good time to end my career.”
