Voters approve KPS bond request in special election
KALKASKA — Voters in Kalkaska County provided Kalkaska Public Schools officials with a bit of good news Tuesday, overwhelmingly approving what district officials had called a “millage neutral” bond proposal in the May 4 special election.
Voters cast their ballots in favor of the $16.85-million, 14-year bond proposal by nearly a 2-to-1 margin. According to unofficial results posted by the Kalkaska County Clerk’s Office, the proposal received 1,172 “yes” votes to only 675 “no” votes.
The issue passed in 8 of 11 precincts, with the bond proposal failing to gain a majority of votes in only Garfield (55-79) and Orange (58-61) townships. In Springfield Township, it was a tie with one vote cast for and against the bond proposal.
