Village places treasurer on indefinite suspension
KALKASKA – Kalkaska village officials announced that they have placed the village treasurer on indefinite suspension after she was given a written warning for insubordination effective Friday, Dec. 22.
The suspension of treasurer Jennifer Standerfer came after a Personnel Committee meeting last week, in which Village President Jeff Sieting read the letter dated Thursday, Dec. 21.
“During a recent exchange between you and the village manager, you indicated that the village manager has no authority to direct your work, that you possessed sole authority to direct all of your work activities and you refused to comply with the village manager’s request to provide (Kalkaska) Department of Public Safety Employees with credit cards to be used for appropriate work-related purchases,” Sieting stated in the letter. “This behavior constitutes insubordination, is unprofessional and contributes to a poor work environment.”
According to reports, Standerfer had allegedly cancelled credit cards issued to KDPS personnel because of missing receipts. Standerfer reportedly said she had told other village officials of the problem but the issue had not been properly addressed, causing her to take further action.
