Village officials contend marijuana industry just one building block of new economy
KALKASKA — The Village of Kalkaska is again making headlines. And, again, it’s because of the community’s willingness to adapt to changes in state law that have allowed the village to become a leader in the budding medical marijuana industry.
Most recently, Kalkaska was featured in a prominent downstate publication, Crain’s Detroit Business, due to its unique position as a leader in the Michigan’s now legal marijuana industry.
And, village manager Scott Yost repeated at the Kalkaska Village Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 13, that the growth of the medical and recreational marijuana industry could be the area’s “third boom,” following previous economic booms — and busts — in the logging and natural gas and oil industries.
