Village may consider moving its offices
BELLAIRE – Although the subject is still only at a “conversation” point, if an area nonprofit arts organization is interested in pursuing acquisition of the Bellaire Community Hall, the Village of Bellaire’s offices may consider moving, according to Bellaire Village Council President David Schulz
Schultz’s comments came during last Wednesday’s monthly village council meeting.
“We had a conversation with Brad Kik, of the Crosshatch Center For Art & Ecology, who is in the audience tonight, about using our Community Hall for what it was intended, and used for, many years ago,” Schulz said, reminding the Council and audience of the hall’s long unused stage and dance area, and the old roller skates found in the hall several years ago.
“This hall was once a place where the community came to have a good time,” he stated.
“At this time, there is no plan in place,” Schulz said. “But having a center for the arts in the area, similar to the HERTHA building in Elk Rapids, is a vision of Crosshatch. There are grants available – from organizations like the National Endowment For The Arts – to help visions like those of the Crosshatch Center come true. And there are a number of other possible funding venues."
