ELK RAPIDS – While most trees haven’t changed colors yet, there’s still a chance to enjoy some beauty in northern Michigan at next weekend’s Art Beat in Elk Rapids. The annual fall art event on Saturday, Oct. 5 features refreshments, giveaways and live demonstrations at three of Elk Rapids’ art galleries.

Working together, the galleries provide a day-long event that continues to attract art enthusiasts from throughout the area and beyond.

While it may seem as if the galleries are direct competitors, each features different artists and styles, from life-sized outdoor sculptures and delicate glasswork to miniature canvas paintings.

During Art Beat, the galleries collaborate to promote art in general by providing a more festive atmosphere throughout the village. Touted as a kick-off to the autumn color tour season, the fall Art Beat is hosted at the Blue Heron Gallery, Mullaly’s 128 Studio and Gallery, and the Twisted Fish Gallery.

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 the galleries will provide assorted refreshments and artist interactions for visitors to enjoy.
