Like previous celebrations, the seventh annual Kalkaska Street Festival on Aug. 10-12 will be a family-friendly event, with activities for young and older alike, including bounce houses for the kids.

KALKASKA – Railroad Square in downtown Kalkaska will become party central Friday through Sunday, Aug. 10-12, with the coming of the seventh annual Kalkaska Street Festival.

The three-day event kicks off with a Free Community Picnic and Concert starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, when the bands, The Medicine Ball and Yankee Station, provide up to four hours of entertainment at Railroad Square, located on Maple Street, a block off Cedar Street.

The fun continues on Saturday, Aug. 11, with the festivities starting up again at noon when the Cherry Blossom Ramblers take center stage under the big top, the first of six bands ending with the Leetsville Blues Band at 6 p.m.

But, there’s a lot more on the schedule than just music on Aug. 11. Saturday includes a full array of family-friendly activities, such as arts and crafts, a plethora of vendors, juggling, an obstacle course, face painting, rock painting and bounce houses.

“It's grown over the last four years,” said Gayenell Gentelia, Kalkaska Village Downtown Development Authority associate director, of the annual community celebration.

“We strive to make it bigger and better each year. We also try to bring something new and interesting each year,” Gentelia added. “New this year is Cirque Amongus, where festival attendees can learn circus acts.”

And, if that’s not enough, just a block away, downtown merchants will be celebrating with their annual Sidewalk Sales.
