KALKASKA — If celebrating Halloween on Oct. 31 wasn’t enough, the Village of Kalkaska is hoping to help young and old alike enjoy the spookiest of holidays even more.

The Kalkaska Village Council approved Village President Harley Wales’ recommendation at its meeting Monday, Oct. 19, to expand the traditional Trick-or-Treating hours of 5-8 p.m. to 4:30-9 p.m.

“I’m going to make it a little longer this year,” Wales said of the change. “We just want everyone to proceed with what they feel is safe for their families and be sure to have fun.

“That’s why we allotted extra time this year. I’m expecting record numbers and want to facilitate that.”

By giving youngsters and their parents more time to collect candy from village residents, Wales added he hopes people will take their time and continue to respect social distancing guidelines. That includes at various Trunk-Or-Treating events or other events held by various organizations and civic groups.

“I want it to be fun and safe,” he said.
