Village council OK’s increase in assistant manager’s duties

KALKASKA — While no promotion will go unearned, the Kalkaska Village Council is preparing for a potential changing of the guard atop its administrative staff in the next few years.

At its regular monthly meeting in December, the council voted to increase the duties of Aaron Popa, who already is a sergeant in the Kalkaska Department of Public Safety and assistant village manager, to include that of assistant zoning administrator.

The increase in duties also comes with an increase in compensation. Popa will receive an additional $6,500 annually for his role as assistant zoning administrator.

Trustee Diana Needham, chairwoman of the council’s Personnel Committee, said committee members felt the additional duties will help provide a measure of continuity “for at least the next few years,” according to meeting minutes.
