Village could consider enabling KDPS to provide continuous coverage
KALKASKA – Less than three years ago, the Kalkaska Village Council was considering whether to merge its police department with the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department.
But, soon, the council might now instead be looking at providing enough resources to allow the Kalkaska Department of Public Safety provide continuous “24-7” coverage for village residents.
Village president Jeff Sieting, in his report to the council at its regular meeting Monday, Sept. 25, said the KDPS could operate on a continuous, everyday basis if it was to promote a current part-time officer to full time and then hire an additional officer.
