VanAlstine elected as county commission chair
BELLAIRE — Using "Election Buddy" software, which allowed for a secret ballot, Antrim County's nine-member Board Of Commissioners elected District 5 Commissioner Terry VanAlstine as its new chair for 2021 during the board's 2021 organizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 4.
VanAlstine, who was nominated for the position by District 2 Commissioner Josh Watrous, won his seat over District 3 Commissioner Karen Bargy, nominated by District 6 Commissioner Brenda Ricksgers, with a vote of six to three.
VanAlstine, who has served as a county Commissioner since 2018, is a military veteran and resident of Bellaire who managed an auto parts business in Bellaire for many years and at Christmas frequently portrays Santa Claus at area events. As a Commissioner, he attends township and village meetings as well as area events on a regular basis.
