Vaccines are coming!

BELLAIRE — A year that many would like to forget will soon be in the rear view mirror and a new year offering much hope for an end to the devastating coronavirus known as COVID-19 is on the horizon with the arrivals of the first doses of much-anticipated vaccines that the medical world is hoping will stop the virus in its tracks. 

In fact, the first vaccines, from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, were administered to "priority" individuals on Dec. 18, the same day that employees of the Munson Health Care system began receiving their vaccines, according to Antrim County Emergency Management Director Leslie Meyers, who is helping the Northwest Health Department of Michigan coordinate the vaccine effort. 

"I sent a list of 70 individuals with the highest needs for vaccination to the health department, so they started with those people," said Meyers, noting that those individuals comprised individuals employed as EMS technicians, fire department medics, and others involved in emergency medical care.
