Vaccination clinics a ‘well-oiled machine’ thanks to Emergency Management and volunteer assistance

ALDEN — For Lenore Weaver, getting a COVID-19 vaccination was an emotional experience. For Mary Smith, it was exciting. 

Both women received their first doses of vaccine at the Helena Township Community Center in Alden through the Northwest Michigan Health Department, with Weaver, superintendent of Central Lake Public Schools, getting her first injection on Jan. 21, and Smith, a retired resident of Bellaire, visiting Alden for the first time on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Weaver was surprised at her emotional reaction, saying, "I didn't realize how relieved I'd feel until I got there," adding that the former gymnasium turned into emergency clinic was filled with a "general feeling of kindness, support, and gratitude."
