Union lends a helping hand with gifts, food

ATWOOD — Antrim County Sheriff’s Department Detective Edward Smith had so many Christmas gifts and food items that it filled the back of his car.

The gifts and food were delivered to Atwood resident Debbie Comstock on Wednesday, Dec. 23, part of a project put together by 15 local deputies and dispatchers of the Police Officers Association of Michigan union to provide a Christmas celebration to an area family in need.

The beneficiary was Comstock, who had just received custody of her grandchildren, Trenton, age 7, and Mara, age 6, only two weeks ago and was needing assistance to give the kids a good Christmas.
