The Friends of the Kalkaska County Library are hosting the group’s annual gift basket silent auction from now until 3 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 19. More than 30 silent auction items fill the library including a bicycle, a three-foot Barbie with outfits, a cat care basket complete with feline adoption certificate, a Jan Brett themed basket, and a basket of homemade jams and jellies that includes a freshly made coffee cake on the last day of the auction, along with much more.

KALKASKA – The Friends of the Kalkaska County Library (FOL) are hosting the group’s annual gift basket silent auction and raffle now through Dec. 19. More than 30 items fill the Cedar Street Library that organizers said are perfect for anyone on your gift giving list – men, women, children and even animals.

The themed gift baskets contain an array of attractive items, including gift certificates, food and drinks, handmade goods, toys, books and more.

The majority of the featured items are obtainable through silent auction bidding, but three are available via raffle tickets. The raffle tickets are available at the library for $2 each or six tickets for $10. The raffle items include an electric scooter, an American Girl Doll with accessories, and a Dr. Seuss quilt.

FOL donates 100 percent of the annual holiday season fundraiser proceeds toward the future building of a new Library.

FOL is a 501(c) (3) organization whose main goals are to: promote the library; enrich the resources and activities of the library; sponsor literary, cultural and educational programs; conduct fundraising events; enhance and extend library services; and coordinate volunteer efforts, according to organizers.

To date the group has accrued over $80,000 toward the new library.

A second annual fundraiser is also scheduled later this month. On Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12-13 the library will hold its popular cookie sale. FOL hosts the sale in the lower level of the library both days during normal business hours.

Patrons can once again expect more than just cookies. Last year the event featured chocolate pretzels, meringues, fudge, rice crispy treats, and more. The cost of one dozen pieces is $6 and boxes are provided. All proceeds of this fundraiser benefit current library needs and programming.
