ELMIRA — A 20-alarm fire, the largest in Antrim County in many years, devastated much of the Kitchen Farms' potato complex on Monday, May 17.

The fire, which required the mutual aid assistance of 20 different fire departments from as far away as Montmorency County, is believed to have started at approximately 10:30 a.m. in an area where a new storage barn was under construction, according to Antrim County Deputy Administrator Jeremy Scott.

At least seven buildings in the complex, including a portion of the business's office building, were completely destroyed as well as all of the contents of the buildings, which included equipment and potato seedlings.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, including Kitchen Farm employees present at the time that the blaze began.
