SUTTONS BAY — Central Lake didn’t waste any time putting together a thrilling win this year.

The Trojans’ softball team scored the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning, then kept the potential tying run stranded at second base in the bottom of the inning to pull out a 9-8 victory over Suttons Bay in the first game of the year, played on Monday.

Jade Moffat drove in Ellen Roggenbeck with the deciding run with one out in the sixth on a single to left field. That was the final run scored in a back and forth game. Central Lake held a 3-1 lead after the top of the third, but Suttons Bay scored six runs to go up 7-3. The Trojans responded with a five-run fourth inning to reclaim the lead, 8-7. The Lady Norsemen evened the score in the bottom of the fourth.

Moffat’s big hit was part of a 2 for 4 game at the plate, which included two RBIs. Angel Shaw and Sydney Fernandez also matched Moffat’s stat line. Lexi Donaldson and Kaiya Willson both went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
