Township passes on medical marijuana facility for now
ALBA – Although nothing in the way of a formal policy regulating marijuana businesses was approved or denied at its April 2 monthly business meeting, the Chestonia Township Board of Trustees agreed to pass on allowing a medical marijuana facility in the township.
"Although it's not on the agenda, we've all discussed voting ‘no’ or ‘no confidence’ on the subject (at prior meetings), so I think we're ready to make a decision on this," Supervisor Gerald "Boone" Averill said of a proposal for a medical marijuana facility made to the township earlier this year.
"I spoke to the guy who said he was the CEO of this company, Spring Sciences, last Wednesday, after he called me," Averill continued. "When I told him he was looking at a minimum of four ‘no’ votes against his proposal, he said not to bother putting him on the agenda for tonight."
In the meantime, Averill noted, "The state of Michigan went ahead and denied everyone who applied for state licenses for medical marijuana facilities under the new rules. So I don't even think that it's necessary to bring this to a vote."
